The CGS community is most proud of our student Vassilis Michalis, (IB DP 1 and CGS MUN 2019 Secretary General) who was one of seven students from around the world invited to attend the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), in Vienna last week. Vassilis participated in the first ever CCPCJ Youth Meeting as a contributor in drafting a statement on the role young people can play in achieving the 16th Sustainable Development Goal which considers how governments involve and educate youth as potential “agents of change”.

The statement was delivered during the Commission Plenary Session before an audience of United Nations CCPCJ members and observers.  The message emphasized supporting youth initiatives, encouraged the creation of a CCPCJ Youth Forum, Youth Parliaments and developed an international network of youth delegates to serve as a platform for education and expression.

With the 202 Kyoto Crime Congress on the horizon, the Education 4 Justice initiative called the address “historic” as it was the first time young people participated in the Commission for Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in a meaningful way.

Congratulations Vassilis – wishing you the best for a bright future ahead!
