Making a Real Difference in the World

IB Diploma Programme alumnus, Alexandros Angelopoulos (Class of 2014) had a very rewarding, exciting year.  After receiving The University of Edinburgh Principal’s Medal for service to the community, he was then awarded the Elizabeth Sinclair Irvine Prize for being the most distinguished graduate, earning a First Class Honour’s degree in Ecological & Environmental Sciences in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh.

Today, Alexandros heads up Elpis Solar (www.elpissolar.com), a non-profit organization that provides autonomous solar-powered charging stations and digital platforms to refugee camps.  Currently, Alexandros was in Mahama Camp in Rwanda, serving more than 50,000 people providing solar panels for electricity and water filters.

Alexandros next step is to pursue his Master’s degree in Climate Change, Management and Finance at Imperial College this fall where he was admitted with the Social Impact Scholarship Award in recognition of his social contribution and leadership skills.
