GIN at the City of Athens Municipal Citizen Assistance Unit

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019 the Global Issues Network (GIN) club at CGS visited the City of Athens Citizen Assistance Unit, one of the most important structures of the Centre for the Reception and Solidarity of the Municipality of Athens (ΚΥΑΔΑ). The unit is at the core of social solidarity in the city. It aims to address the problems of vulnerable groups and combat the factors that lead them to poverty, exclusion and social isolation by providing them with assistance with food, housing and social reintegration issues.

During its visit to the unit, the Global Issues Network club offered clothing and footwear to the socially vulnerable groups of the city, and was given a guided tour of its premises and informed of the unit’s work by its chairperson, Mrs Katsoulis. This action has been a response to the social and environmental impact of the fashion industry – a problem that students at our school presented at the annual Global Issues Network Conference in Luxembourg in 2018.

Thanks to the mobilization of the entire school community, an impressive amount of clothes and shoes was gathered to meet our fellow citizens’ daily needs. This action has once again proved that, with simple acts of solidarity, we can change the lives of people in need.

Thank you very much indeed for all your support.

On behalf of the Global Issues Network club.
