In Junior High school students are offered the opportunity to start learning Italian through the language acquisition programme offered by the MYP.
In particular, in grade 7 (MYP Year 2) students are placed in phase 1 and continue to phases 2 and 3 in grades 8 and 9 (MYP Year 3, MYP Year 4) respectively.
The opportunity to acquire language certificates Celi 1, Celi 2 and Celi 3 is also offered to students who are in phase 2, phase 3 and phase 4 respectively. A prerequisite for this is participation in the exam preparation courses offered by the Foreign Language Club.
In grade 10 (MYP Year 5) students can maintain contact with Italian by utilising the two hours of instruction provided to them in the daily programme.
The language level attained by the end of grade 10 (MYP Year 5) enables students attending the IB DP programme to choose Italian B, either at SL (Standard Level) for those who have completed phases 3, 4 or at HL (High Level) for those who have completed phase 4.
Irrespective of their level or the certificates in Italian which they may hold, students may also choose Italian Ab Initio (Italian for Beginners) in the IB DP programme.
