It is the means by which we analyse what students have learned, how effective our teaching has been and is the basis for future planning. A teacher assesses students&#8217; work on a daily basis with a range of assessment tools such as:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PYP Portfolio\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An individual portfolio of a student\u2019s achievements and skills is created, which the child himself\/herself presents to his\/her parents both at school and at home. It is an important tool for documenting the student\u2019s academic progress throughout the academic year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PYP<\/strong> <strong>Exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the guidance of their teacher, Year 6 students organize a presentation of a project based on teamwork. There is great flexibility in selecting the central idea to be explored at the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culminating projects\/activities <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through exhibitions, dance, music, drama, collage, texts, maps, book reviews, posters, debates, games, computer presentations, drawings, statues, jokes, short stories, puzzles, songs and whatever else is created during the unit of enquiry, various ways of learning are summarised. Students present teachers and the school in general what they have learned, how they have learned and how well they have learned while completing one or more Units of Enquiry to their parents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>School<\/strong><strong>&#8211; <\/strong><strong>Family<\/strong> <strong>Collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is of the utmost importance that close collaboration should exist between the Family and School for a more effective implementation of the Primary Years Programme.<\/p>\n<p>We communicate because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>we share the responsibility for educating our children,<\/li>\n<li>we exchange information and re-inforce the parent-teacher relationship<\/li>\n<li>we understand our children\u2019s needs better and achieve a more effective response to challenges and potential problems<\/li>\n<li>the child realises that the school and the family are working together, interacting and contributing to its education, development and individual progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The school communicates via:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the PYP&#8217;s monthly electronic newsletter &#8220;School News&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>the student&#8217;s agenda<\/li>\n<li>Progress Reports (three times a year: 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> terms)<\/li>\n<li>Unit of Enquiry three-fold leaflets containing information on the implementation of the programmes<\/li>\n<li>culminating events (Unit of Enquiry Programmes)<\/li>\n<li>correspondence outlining the goals and activities for Greek and Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>face-to-face interviews in the morning<\/li>\n<li>e-mails<\/li>\n<li>2 weekly meetings with each teacher (booked in advanced) and 3 full-day PTA meetings during the academic year<\/li>\n<li>contact via phone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assessment is an integral part of the curriculum of the PYP.
