{"id":7588,"date":"2016-01-26T12:55:47","date_gmt":"2016-01-26T10:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cgs.gr\/en\/?p=7588"},"modified":"2022-07-01T00:22:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T21:22:10","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cgs.gr\/en\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row padding_top=&#8221;10&#8243; padding_bottom=&#8221;20&#8243;][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;36992&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; full_width=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>History<\/p>\n<p>Important Dates<\/p>\n<p>Some important dates in CGS history include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 1973:<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School opens its doors with 330 students in Marousi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 1981:<\/strong><br \/>\nInauguration of new school premises in Pallini, Attiki.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 1993:<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School becomes an official University of London GCE Test Centre.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 1994:<\/strong><br \/>\nEstablishment of the International Baccalaureate Diploma \u00a0Programme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2003:<\/strong><br \/>\nInauguration of the Athletic &amp; Cultural Centre, facilities include soccer field, tennis court, volleyball court, basketball court, handball court, amphitheatre, experimental sciences, laboratories, classrooms with interactive technology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2005:<\/strong><br \/>\nRe-establishment of Alumni Association with over 4,000 \u00a0active members to date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2005:<\/strong><br \/>\nEstablishment of the Pre-IB Programme for Grade 10 students interested in pursuing the IB Diploma Programme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2007:<\/strong><br \/>\nEstablishment of the International Baccalaureate\u2019s Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) for students between the ages of 3 and 12 with Greek as the primary language of instruction and English as the secondary language of instruction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2009:<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School is authorised by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) \u00a0 as an official examination centre for the SAT and PSAT.<\/p>\n<p><strong>October 2009:<\/strong><br \/>\nEstablishment of Juventus Soccer Schools, Soccer Academy with exclusive cooperation of Juventus FC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December 2009:<\/strong><br \/>\nHarvard Graduate School of Education Professional Development Training Seminars for Primary Level teachers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2010<\/strong><br \/>\nIntroduction of the International Baccalaureate\u2019s Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) for students aged between 12 and 15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School becomes the first school in Greece authorised to deliver the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to Pre-Kindergarten, Nursery School and Primary School children aged 3-12, in Greek.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2012<\/strong><br \/>\nIn collaboration with the University of Dundee, one of Europe&#8217;s most distinguished educational institutions in higher education, Costeas-Geitonas School founds the Hellenic Association for Education (HAEd), an innovative programme offering the first international Degree in Education in Greece.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November 2013<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School successfully completes the Middle Years Programme (MYP) final authorisation phase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2014<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School is the first school in Greece to celebrate 20 years as an IB World School (the IB DP has been provided since 1994) and today offers all three programmes for children aged 3-18.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2014<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School inaugurates the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy in Greece. Through innovative educational programmes, the Academy aims to bring students of all levels into contact with modern developments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2015<\/strong><br \/>\nFor the first time in Greece and in collaboration with Brown University, one of the leading international universities in the sciences, Costeas-Geitonas School offers SPARK Summer Science Courses to students aged 12 to 17. Students have the opportunity to come into direct contact with two cutting-edge sciences, namely biology and engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2016<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School inaugurates a new Visual Arts workshop for students of all levels. The new Visual Arts workshop features a state-of-the-art 3D printer, an engraving press and a complete wood workshop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May 2016<\/strong><br \/>\nCelebrating its fifth decade as one of the leading educational institutions in Greece, Costeas-Geitonas School rebrands itself as CGS. Maintaining the solid foundations on which the school has been built over all these years, the school is leading the way with its new identity. Aiming to educate future active global citizens, CGS remains a Greek school with an international perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 2018\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nCGS organizes the first CGS Educational Conference entitled &#8220;Rethink Education&#8221;.At the\u00a0Dimitris Mitropoulos hall\u00a0of the Athens Concert Hall, participants had the unique opportunity to attend presentations on the Redefinition of the Learning Process and the Key Role of the Educator given by\u00a0leading Professors from Harvard University and the University of Montreal Saint-Saveur in Quebec.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2020\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nCosteas-Geitonas School celebrate twenty-five year anniversary of becoming an IB World School.The IB Diploma Programme has been provided since 1994 and today CGS offers all three programmes for children aged 3-18.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri Light',sans-serif; color: #363636;\">Costeas-Geitonas School (\u201cCGS\u201d), Lamda Development SA, through its subsidiary ELLINIKO MAE.
