On February 21, 2024, CGS parents and students were invited to attend an information presentation on applying to universities in the United States as student-athletes. The speakers were Kathy Angelopoulou, Head, International Education and University Counseling at CGS along with Dimitris Kontinopoulos, Director of Max College Sports.
The evening opened with Ms. Angelopoulou providing the audience with an overview of the US university application process, admission criteria and detailed timeline. She also was on hand to answer any questions related to the academic elements of a successful application and how to arrange an individual meeting with her for any member of the CGS community.
Following that, Mr. Kontinopoulos presented to the parents and students of CGS the reasons why it would benefit a student-athlete to study at a US University, as well as the factors for evaluating a suitable academic and athletic institution. The step-by-step process of searching for a full scholarship was explained in detail, with a thorough reference to the academic and athletic prerequisites, the action cycles followed by MAX College Sports, and the path toward the ultimate goal.
Throughout the three-year strategic partnership between CGS and MAX College Sports, successful partnerships have been forged, with one of the most successful and recent being represented at this event by her testimonial on the collaboration and her experience through the process. The name of the student is Alexandra Papapetropoulou, who is a member of both CGS and MAX College Sports, and signed a scholarship contract with Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, last November.
MAX College Sports, from 2017 until now, has achieved great success in integrating over 70 student-athletes in universities in the United States, with 97% of them on full scholarships.
Alexandra Papapetropoulou admitted to Temple University
It is with great pride that CGS announces the official admission of our IB Diploma Programme student, Alexandra Papapetropoulou, to Temple University in Philadelphia!
Last season Alexandra was ranked 1st in Greece and 91st in the world as a Cadet. She recently signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) and will begin her undergraduate studies at Temple this fall with a full athletic and academic merit scholarship.
We want to thank everyone who supported Alexandra along her journey and give particular recognition to her family whose support throughout was crucial to her becoming a passionate D1 student-athlete, ready to start her journey at a top US university.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Dimitrios Kontinopoulos and his team at Max College Sports for his professionalism and exceptional collaboration.
Founded in 1884, Temple University’s official motto is Perseverantia Vincit or Perseverance Conquers – most fitting words for Alexandra!
Congratulations, Alexandra! You’ve made us proud!
