Pre – IB Diploma Programme

A student’s choice to follow the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) is an important decision for MYP Year 5 students. The main goal of the Pre-IB DP programme at CGS is to acquaint students with the courses, teachers and how the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme works.

Since 2010, when the Pre-IB DP programme commenced, CGS students have been gradually introduced to the spirit, curriculum and implementation of the IB DP, gaining valuable experience in the process. Participants in the Pre-IB DP do not have to attend the IB Diploma Programme, but with the completion of the Pre-IB DP, they will surely have the resources, experience and judgment to decide on their academic course, either the IB Diploma Programme or General Lyceum.

Additionally, the students of Pre-IB DP, together with their parents, will have the opportunity to attend presentations given by admissions officers representing universities from abroad.

The courses are taught in English (except for the Modern Greek course) and for the academic year 2020-21 are the following:

EnglishModern Greek

History

Global Politics

Economics

Psychology

Business & Management

Theory of Knowledge

ChemistryPhysics

Biology

Computer Science

Mathematics

Visual Arts

Music

The activities of the CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) programme as well as workshops and seminars on Time Management, Creative Thinking, Academic Etiquette, Choosing the Right University for You, etc are part of the Pre-IB DP programme.

The courses are taught by experienced IB Diploma Programme teachers at CGS and are offered, in particular for this year, online through the Microsoft Teams platform, every Thursday, 17:00 – 18:30. Classes will begin on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

IB MYP e-assessment courses

Participation of students in an external assessment by the IB Organization.

The e-Assessment programme will be offered by CGS in the SMART by Distance zone.

ΙΒ MYP Year 5 students have the opportunity to participate in the external assessment by the ΙΒ Organization. The assessment is conducted through their participation in electronic exams (on-screen exams).

The process is an opportunity for students to receive external feedback on their performance and potential areas for improvement in view of their possible transition to the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP). The final grade they will receive is an official certification (IB-validated grades) of their knowledge and skills and is taken into account in their application for registration in the IB DP. In addition, the programme strengthens the academic profile of students in view of the University selection process.

For the preparation of the students, preparatory courses / workshops have been designed in order to cover the foreseen modules and to acquaint the students with the process of the electronic examinations.
