Despoina Chouliara IB DP Class of 2018 Awarded the Karsh International Scholarship at Duke University

Congratulations to Despoina Chouliara, IB Diploma Programme, (Class of 2018) who was named the recipient of this year’s prestigious Karsh International Scholarship at Duke University.

In addition to a full 4-year tuition scholarship, accommodation and board, Karsh International Scholars have the opportunity to study alongside a highly select group of students from all over the world, have their own faculty advisor and can explore their academic and personal interests anywhere in the USA or around the globe during the summers.

Despoina will be part of an intellectual community that is very intellectually and civically engaged, a cohort of international students who promote interdisciplinary inquiry, are passionate about academic research, and scholarship in the service of society.

Karen Shapiro, Director of the Karsh Scholars Programme, in his letter to the school wrote, “Despoina struck us as just such a student.  Her consistent achievements in math, music, and Model United Nations, as well as her beautifully written essay linking the arts and humanities with science and math, made her stand out. We hope that with Duke’s emphasis on interdisciplinarity and the wide-ranging opportunities here, that Despoina will find a congenial environment in which she can pursue all her interests and talents. We greatly look forward to welcoming her in person to Duke University.”

Despoina has made CGS most proud throughout the years – we wish her every academic and personal success in the future!
